The basic concept of a/v club as you have probably seen it is typically more a stereotyped plot device for something to depict nerdy kids in a school environment. The publication's name is a reference to audiovisual (AV) clubs typical of American high schools. So it's more about doing something 'viral' or 'good' then figuring out the optimum settings or products to do something. AV club members get hall passes in return for carting film projectors and such around to the various classrooms when needed. He likes everything about MGAV, but especially teaching other students, getting to know people, and doing all things A/V. Unless his career takes a sudden lurch toward the unexpected, Jack Black will forever be relegated to two kinds of roles: a manic, hard-partying slob, or a manic, hard-partying slob who passionately articulates (and gesticulates) his opinions on the subject of rocking out. Students eligible for free meals will have the activity fee automatically waived and others who feel this fee is a financial hardship can call the Business Office to discuss installment payments or a possible reduction in the fee. As I recall, it was an elective where you could hang out with the librarian and occasionally setup projectors for teachers. And do they still exist in today’s high schools? Even if your school has a class or club in your general area of interest, you may want to focus your attention on a more specific topic.

At my high school we didn’t have “Hall passes,” so I guess that’s why we had no A/V club.

According to some of my older coworkers, it used to be more of a thing back when that kind of stuff was complicated. Our group had the added advantage that hall passes didn’t exist so we could very easily convince one teacher that another teacher needed us somewhere else. Now, she's going into Graphic Design and attending University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

Actually now that I think about it, I don't even know if that lounge was school sanctioned. That was fun, and I got paid a solid amount of money when it was for an outside rental. At my school they did videos for pep rallies and seniors could get extra credit for going around to classes and helping teachers with problems with their computers and projectors.

Since we had keys to various interesting parts of school, we could do certain things on the sly. I ran the PA system for Town Meetings (at $25 per night), I filmed the football games (at $25/game), and I worked repairing the Apple IIe systems in the “media center” (read library), at $5/hr during my study halls, and after school, as I cared to work it.

In this course, students bring their vision to life with nothing more than a tablet, a stylus and a lot of imagination! Football is his favorite to film because it forces everyone to work as a team.
I know my elementary school didn't have one, but my middle school and high school did.

Modern "AV" clubs are probably devoted to video logs and podcasting. So much so that even some current video games got their start as board games (you just wait for Cyberpunk 2077 to come out). It wasn’t an official club, but still the usual group of geeks, nerds, wonks and twerps.

In my own HS days, back in the late 70s and early 80s, us “cool” kids were all rock star musicians, or so we thought. The aim of an audiovisual program in a school is to facilitate learning by improving instruction.
